H.W.R
Based on a true story!
This is a song I wrote about a Canadian WWII soldier.
The story behind this song is…
There is a tree with the initials H.W.R. carved into it in northern Holland.
The tree grew anonymously for 70 years before it was discovered by a Ranger.
He took a pic and showed it to a journalist friend who decided to see if he could trace who the initials belonged too.
He was able to connect the initials to a Canadian soldier. He was also able to get in touch with the niece of this soldier who knew nothing about the tree.
And that is when the story unfolded that this young Canadian had carved those initials just days before he was shot and killed and shortly before he was set to return home to Canada.
Chase had heard the story on a talk radio program and went home and began writing this song.
CTV National News did a wonderful story on Remembrance Day 2019 around my song H.W.R. and the story of this Canadian Hero. And it was so nice that I was able to meet H.W.R.'s neice.
For over 70 years the initials H.W.R. remained anonymous, carved into the side of a tree in a little town in northern Holland. A Ranger
named Booi Kluiving discovered the tree and took a photo of it. Dutch journalist, Ernst Arbouw saw the photo and set out to see if he could trace who the initials belonged too. He was able to connect the initials to a young WWII Canadian soldier named Harold Wilbert Rozsell. Tragically Harold was killed shortly after he would have carved his initials and sadly just a few days before he was to return home.

Since 2017 I have been co-hosting Songwriter's Nights with Paul Malysa at a club called Moonshine Cafe in Oakville Ontario. We have featured some of the finest songwriter's and performers in Southern Ontario.
On Wednesay December 11th, 2019 we held a very special night in support of Interim Place, an organization that helps women and their children flee from abusive relationships.
Chase held an incredible night that featured the comedic brilliance of Geri Hall as host, along with performers David Boyd Janes, Nicole Rayy, Elyse Saunders, Rebecca Rain and of course myself and Paul Malysa.
