Our Lady Peace’ is a great Toronto band always changing and evolving to the environment they create within the entire 'Something' album.
The song 'Head Down' is exactly that. It's evolving and adapting to life's personal journey.
I think Raine is trying to tell us all that to be vulnerable is to be real. Real is happy. In order to be happy requires patience and humility.
Life's personal journey is like a map full of roads. Some roads are easy to find and some are much more difficult to navigate through, requiring us to have to detour and readjust to get to our original destination.
Life takes us down many of these kinds of roads. You might set out with a mapped out plan but life always throws you a road block forcing you to adapt in the moment and find a new alternate route without getting lost.
''The arithmetic never works out like I planned, yeah. Head down wait for tomorrow. Dark days soon will be over. I'll find my place in the sun.'' Lyrics from the song 'Head Down.'
Raine's lyrics remind us to challenge your mind and spirit where the darkness can hide feelings or doubts and find your way out surrendering the urge to be in control lending yourself the ability to be vulnerable to see the to the light in front of you.. There you will find the freedom, the inner peace and happiness in which we seek and desire the most.
Seize the moment and breath in your creation. Remember everything you can about everything you’ve ever seen and felt. Embrace life's journey as the hurt becomes growth
The album has varied styles, rhythms and melodies and yet it still maintains a congruent presence from front to back. It feels a bit like a journey, but a deeper, life-affirming one, not a vacation. In traditional OLPfashion, there are hints of existentialism, religious doubt, and self-reflection layered throughout the poetic musings. ‘Nice to Meet You’ was the second single released and along with the lead track ‘Head Down’, it’s probably the closest to pop – definitely catchy. ‘Ballad of a Poet’ is soulful and thoughtful, ‘Drop Me in the Water’ is more rock and reminiscent of early albums and ‘Missing Pieces’ has a slide-guitar country feel to it.
Maida and OLP have long always seemed a little deeper than a lot of rock and this album seems to continue that trend. Despite the hiatus, inner turmoil and lack of commercial “success”, the band has returned to make an album that they wanted to make. This is not always the case in today’s music industry – many bands never recover from any of the above. It’s a testament to the perseverance and drive of the band and it’s members and it shows through in the new album.
OLP will always be one of my favourite Canadian alternative rock bands because of the morals and depth they represent in their music and lyrics. .

BIOGRAPHY:
When Mark Van Doren, the American poet and teacher, wrote his famous work, “Our Lady Peace” in 1943, he couldn’t have imagined the concept of rock’n’roll, let alone that a Canadian rock group would adopt his title for their name. Consisting of Raine Maida, Duncan Coutts, Steve Mazur and Jason Pierce. Our Lady Peace is one of the most successful bands in Canada today. The band has sold over 5 million albums worldwide, won four JUNO Awards and ten Much Music Video Awards – one of the most MMVA’s ever awarded to any artist or group.
In the past few years OLP has slowly and meticulously been planning their latest Album Somethingness released on February 23rd 2018. “Drop Me In The Water”, the first release off Somethingness, signified a return to form both musically and lyrically as OLP embrace their early guitar driven, rhythmic roots and cryptic lyrics. OLP recently wrapped up their Canadian Tour with Matthew Good.
